- Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser Service
Any company that undertakes the transportation of dangerous goods has a legal obligation under the following legislation.
“Council Directives 2008/68/EC and 2000/18/EC - requires Member States to implement legislation to ensure that certain undertakings which transport dangerous goods by road, rail and inland waterway, including the transport related activities of loading and unloading, appoint dangerous goods safety advisers (DGSAs)”
Therefore to companies shipping dangerous goods need to employ a Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA). This may be directly using a qualified employee or the company can appoint an independent Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA). In either case the DGSA has a number of responsibilities including:
- Maintaining & Monitoring that the company is compliant with the law
- Advising on the correct procedures for the transport of dangerous goods
- The company’s employees training (including ongoing or future) is up to date & relevant to the tasks they undertake on behalf of the company
- Preparing an annual report of the employers’ activities
- Monitoring a range of procedures and safety measures
- Investigating and compiling reports on any accidents or emergencies
- Advising on the potential security aspects of transport
